Scan a barcode or a whole receipt, see who really owns what, and find something better. Private and independent.
Completely free. No ads, no subscriptions, no account.
Supermarkets, food, beauty, fashion, banks, energy, broadband, tech and more, over 100 categories picked for the UK.
Built from cited public evidence across environment, workers, tax conduct, animal welfare and transparency. Sources on every page.
Many everyday brands belong to much bigger parent companies. ShopFair shows the owner, scores them separately and flags active boycotts.
One barcode for an instant verdict, or one receipt photo to score every brand you bought in one go.
Tell ShopFair what matters to you and it flags the brands that fit. Better choices make your own garden bloom.
Every brand page shows a full pillar breakdown and the company behind the brand.
The company behind a brand gets its own page and score, with the same full breakdown.

Scan a barcode to be instantly taken to the brand's page. If the brand you scanned isn't covered, you can help grow the database by sending it in one tap.

Photograph a receipt and every brand on it gets scored at once, with smart swaps to help improve your score.
Add up to three brands and see their scores and breakdowns together, with the best pick highlighted. You can add products to compare by searching manually or scanning a barcode.

Pick what you care about, such as animal welfare and workers' rights, and ShopFair marks matching brands with a leaf across the whole app. Answer a few questions for a personal score and a garden that grows with your choices.

Look through every category in one place, or jump into curated collections like cruelty-free and vegan brands.

From recycling to spotting greenwashing. ShopFair includes a growing collection of helpful guides, with the official symbols explained.
ShopFair results show up right in iOS Spotlight search, score and status included.

Add widgets for search and both scanners, so each is one tap away.
ShopFair runs on Apple Watch, with the full database searchable from your wrist and your collections synced from the phone. Add the complication to your watch face and search is one tap away.

New brands and score changes reach the app automatically, with no update needed. If you spot a gap, every unknown barcode and receipt item can be sent in from the app, and submissions become new entries.
Independent by design. ShopFair is the work of one person. Scores are ShopFair's own independent assessment, no brand, retailer or advertiser has any say in them, and every page has a report button if you spot something wrong.
Private by design. ShopFair is free forever, with no ads or subscriptions. Your profile stays on your device, and nothing is uploaded or sold.
Accessible by design. ShopFair supports VoiceOver, larger text sizes, dark mode and reduced motion, and every score is shown as a number and a rating, never colour alone.
I try to shop as ethically as I can, but I found the information can be difficult and time consuming to find. I built ShopFair with this in mind, to help people like me shop in line with their values.
ShopFair is built and run independently in the UK. Questions, feedback and press enquiries all welcome.
ShopFair is an independent ethical consumer guide covering thousands of UK brands, from food and fashion to banks, energy, AI and housing.
Independent sources including Ethical Consumer, Open Food Facts, Barnivore and certification registries such as Leaping Bunny, B Corp, Fairtrade, the Vegan Society, the Soil Association and Rainforest Alliance, plus NGO, regulator and court records. Where no third-party rating exists, ShopFair makes its own independent assessment from cited public evidence.
A ShopFair score is an independent assessment: an informed opinion built from cited evidence, like a review, not a certified rating. Companies change, and some entries will lag behind. Every page in the app has a Report an Error button.
The web version is the lighter one: search, scores, ownership and browsing. The iPhone app adds barcode and receipt scanning, your values, a profile and the Apple Watch app.
Android is planned, with no date yet. The web version works on Android today.
Yes. ShopFair is completely free. No ads, no subscriptions, no data sold.
Your name, values and answers are saved only on your device. No account, no sign-up, and never uploaded or sold.
